Visit the Brugal Rum Distillery located 1/2 mile east of town. Did you know that most rum drinks in Puerto Plata are created with Brugal rum. The best rum I have ever had too. Sure you can have a taste while visiting this interesting distillery.
Fort San Felipe
This fort is situated at the end of the Malecon (Ocean Boulevard) and built in the 16th century. The Spaniards used the fort originally to defend against pirates; then in the early 20th century it became a prison. Interesting to see the construction and its very thick walls.
Mount Isabel de Torres
You can take the Teleferico cable car up in this mountain (Mount Isable de Torres) to view the beautiful city and ocean below. You can also drive up if you are afraid of getting on the Teleferico. The Fort and tower were built during Trujillo's rule and is 2500 feet above sea level. Botanical gardens and a restaurant with good food is ready to serve you. It's interesting to see the great big Jesus up there watching over the city below.

The Amber Museum in Puerto Plata, located near the Central Park is one of the most visited attractions in this city. Amber is tree sap that has hardened over thousands or millions of years and many believe the quality of semiprecious stones is second to none.
